The concerts are made possible by support from the Petoskey Area Visitors Bureau and other business and individual sponsors. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, a picnic dinner and perhaps a bottle of wine - but leave your dogs at home. THE JORDAN VALLEY COMMUNITY BAND is comprised of more than 35 musicians from all over Northern Michigan, and they hold rehearsals every Thursday. Director Becky Palmiter is one of a dozen members who have been with the band since it began in 1990. Palmiter was the band director for Boyne City Public Schools from 1987-1998. She says the band will be playing music ranging from patriotic to swing, jazz, marches and college fight songs. Palmiter encourages concert-goers to bring any percussion instruments they may have, such as tambourines, maracas or cowbells to play along during some audience participation numbers. Besides the Gazebo concert, the band will perform at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday in July at the community bandshell in East Jordan. They also play a Christmas concert and a spring concert every year at the East Jordan High School auditorium.
